13 Pillars of Internet Marketing eBook soon to be published

We’ve been working hard over the past few months at writing our “13 Pillars of Internet Marketing” eBook.

It’s going to be completely free-of-charge and will provide a comprehensive introduction to internet marketing for marketing managers, business owners and entrepreneurs.

Keep an eye on the 13 Pillars of Internet Marketing website for more information.

Celebrating 10,000 views of my “13 Pillars of Internet marketing” video on YouTube

I’ve had great success with video marketing over the past year, so I thought I’d share how I managed to drive over 10,000 RELEVANT YouTube visitors to one of my Internet marketing videos…

Here’s the link to the video:

Back in April 2007 I hosted my first major public Internet marketing seminar in Edinburgh, Scotland. I called the seminar the “13 Pillars of Internet Marketing”, focusing on the 13 key elements of an Internet marketing strategy.

I had the seminar filmed, so I decided to make the introduction / overview section around 10 minutes long – recorded with the intention of publishing it on YouTube. Thankfully I was spot-on with my timing – the video is nine minutes and 51 seconds long – just
short of the maximum length allowed for YouTube!

I wanted to optimize the video to appear in YouTube search results for the phrase ‘Internet marketing’. (And I’m pleased to say that the video has nearly always remained on the first page of YouTube results for that phrase since I uploaded it over a year ago.)

Here’s how I achieved this:

1) I included the keyword phrase ‘Internet marketing’ in the video title and video description

Note: If you include your domain at the front of your video description (in http://www.13pillars.com format), then YouTube will automatically turn this into a live link. (Remember to try and include a unique domain as a call to action within the video as
well so you can measure conversion rates)

2) I bookmarked my YouTube video link on a couple of social bookmarking sites

3) I emailed a list of approximately 1000 people asking for a favour – I said to people that I’d just uploaded a video and I’d really appreciate if they could take a look at it – and if they liked it, add a comment and give it a rating. Around 10 people out of the 1000 did this.

And within a month or so I was on the first page of YouTube search results for the keyword phrase ‘Internet marketing’.

That’s all it took – 10,000 relevant video views just like that!

Hopefully this will persuade you that if you haven’t tried it yet, you should give video marketing a go too!

By the way… have you added your comment to the video yet? ;-)

’4 Phases of Internet Marketing’ Membership Site COMING SOON

In the next few days I’m going to be launching a membership site called ‘The 4 Phases of Internet Marketing’. Membership will be free of charge to regular Purple Internet Marketing readers.

As part of the site I’ll be offering a 50-page PDF report, explaining the 4 Phases of Internet Marketing and giving examples of Internet marketing methods appropriate for each phase.

Thanks to last week’s survey I know that many people want advice on search engine optimization, so I’m going to include 8 key areas to focus on for your website as part of the report.

I also noticed in the survey results that there were many other methods of Internet marketing that you were keen to find out more about – so I’ll try and include as much additional information as possible.

Another benefit of 4 Phases membership will include a chance to win a free copy of the 26 Week Internet Marketing Plan – my soon-to-be-launched 4 DVD, 4 workbook and 5 CD package for marketing managers, business leaders and entrepreneurs.

All-in-all the 4 Phases of Internet Marketing membership site shouldn’t be missed… Watch this space!

What is RSS and Why is it Important?

RSS stands for ‘Really Simple Syndication’. It allows you to see when new articles have been added to PurpleInternetMarketing.com without having to visit our website every day.

When you subscribe to our RSS feed (free of charge), our latest Internet marketing tips appear on your home page as soon as they are published. You can then decide whether or not you want to read the full article.

Not all websites currently provide RSS, but it is growing rapidly in popularity and many others, including the BBC and CNN, offer it.

The first thing you need is something called an ‘RSS reader’. This is a piece of software that checks our RSS feed and lets you display a summary of the latest articles published on PurpleInternetMarketing.com. Some of the most popular software that lets you do this includes, Google Reader, My Yahoo and NewsGator.

Once you have chosen an RSS reader, all you have to do is copy our RSS feed website address which is http://feeds.feedburner.com/purpleinternetmarketing into the ‘add content’ section of your RSS reader software. You should then be able to view our most recently published Internet marketing advice articles.
